行政院青年輔導委員會自民國86年起推動青年參與志工服務，於90年加入國際「全球青年服務日」（Global Youth Service Day）活動，與全世界118個國家共同推動，七年來超過8,000餘個青年志工團隊、27萬多名青年參與青年志工服務活動。為進一步持續鼓勵青年參與志工服務，落實馬總統青年政策「台灣小飛俠計畫」，積極鼓勵青年關心國際社會，關懷本土發展，將在四年內倍增志工服務的預算，成立「區域和平志工團」，召喚國內青年在台灣與國際間積極參與扶貧、濟弱、永續發展等志工服務。

Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) is an annual global event organized by Youth Service America and the Global Youth Action Network, as well as a consortium of 31 International Organizations and more than 100 National Coordinating Committees that Celebrates, Recognizes, and Mobilizes
